Sold through the fishing tackle catalog of Andrew B. Hendryx, this circa 1907 side-mount reel is most assuredly based on the reels of Edward P. Follett. Listed in the Hendryx catalog as the "Hendryx Single Action Safety Reel", the 100 yard reel was essentially the same stamped and assembled reel as the Follett design that never made it to the US Patent Office. The only differences are a wider band that holds a counter balance weight opposite the wood handle grasp, and narrow cast foot that is now marked Hendryx in raised letters. A nickel plated brass reel that must not have been a popular seller, as very few have surfaced in more than 100 years. In fact, I am only aware of two such marked reels, though I suspect others are out there, just misidentified as Follett reels.
